Vocal Pedagogy Mentorship
Vocal Pedagogy mentorships are for voice teachers who need help with their teaching.
Whether that means exercises for a specific student or learning about voice science, I am here for you!
A couple ways to know if a vocal pedagogy mentorship is right for you:
You studied voice in college and maybe even took a vocal ped class in undergrad, but you’re unsure how to really help your students make the progress they’re looking for.
Voice teaching is something you fell into, not something you studied and mastered. You need someone who can meet you where you are and teach you vocal mechanics.
You are a great singer, but you have no idea how to teach someone who learns differently than you.
You’re a classically trained singer and teacher, but you need to learn to teach belting and commercial styles in order to retain students and grow your studio.
You need a sounding board. Sometimes students come in and you need someone else to listen to the problem and advise on possible ways to improve their sound.
If this sounds like something you need, schedule an interview below.
This program has limited spots and acceptance is pending interview.
A Little About Me
Hi! My name is JoAnne and I am an online voice teacher. I have a Master’s Degree in Vocal Pedagogy, and I am obsessed with vocal health.
If you don’t know what vocal pedagogy is, it’s all the science-y stuff about singing.
I primarily teach musical theatre and pop singers, but I also have students who sing classical and other commercial styles. My clientele ranges from professional actors to hobbyists, and I love working with all my students.
I am here to demystify the voice for you and help you find freedom like you’ve never known before!
TESTIMONIALS
Gracie Calvaneso -
Voice Teacher + Singer/Songwriter
Bethany Brautigam - Opera Singer
“I'm a classical singer who had never belted before in my life, didn't think I could, and one lesson with JoAnne opened up a whole new side of my voice! In just a few lessons I'm confidently singing repertoire I never thought would be available to me, and auditioning for and being cast in musicals! Lessons are always fun and I never feel like I'm doing anything wrong that needs to be fixed. Instead of saying "that was bad", JoAnne just gives me a new exercise to try or has me make an adjustment and then it just gets better. She creates a safe, supportive, judgment-free zone for learning. Cannot recommend her highly enough!”
Morgan Davis - Actress
“JoAnne is a truly amazing voice teacher; she is honest and intentional, and gentle while being firm. She is incredibly gifted at locating a vocalist’s blocks and does an amazing job taking the entire body and mind into consideration when gauging the voice’s health and potential. She heard the good in my voice that I never could and guided me with extensive wisdom through the 12 weeks that I worked with her. My voice is more open and free, my knowledge for how to use it much deeper, and my confidence in my ability to sing far and away from what little bit I had before. I appreciate her dual focus on both classical and musical theater styles and feel I can always trust her to give me rep that will be perfect challenges for where I am in my learning process.”
Joanne Donovan - Singer/Dancer/Actress
“I was drawn to work with JoAnne because I have done community theatre for years but have been wanting to level up. I had no idea how to create a performing resume, a repertoire book, or take headshots, and I was interested in learning more mechanics of the voice in order to improve my technique. JoAnne has taught me things about singing and the voice that I NEVER would have thought relate to singing (neck posture, tongue height, vowel modification, and jaw tension just to name a few)! One of my favorite parts about working with JoAnne is her unconditional support. I never realized how important this was to have in a voice coach, but she was SO helpful when I felt insecure or down on myself about my voice, and she made me comfortable enough to open up to her. JoAnne’s teaching style is totally student-centered as she always asked me about my personal goals, and took the time to teach me about things I was interested in including reading music! JoAnne has so much to offer!”
Megan Gibson - Singer/Songwriter
“I started vocal lessons with JoAnne after I overworked my voice to the point of exhaustion. She helped me build back my foundation and introduced me to new techniques that help prevent vocal fatigue from ever happening again. Not only was she a great vocal coach she constantly supported me during those emotional times when I felt like I couldn’t get my skills back to where they once were. I’m so happy to say that with the help of JoAnne’s coaching that I have regained my vocal ability back and I grew stronger as a singer in the process!”
